Sitting on the stairway at Rome's Spanish Steps has been banned as part of the city's efforts to crack down on tourists' slovenly behavior. Police were allocated to patrol the tourist spot while ordering people up and off the Steps. /VCG Photo

The new rule was rolled out earlier in June, banning tourists from "camping" and "sitting" on historic monuments, including the Steps and the "boat" fountain at its feet, to protect the historic heritages. /VCG Photo

Violators can be fined up to 448 U.S. dollars for sitting, going shirtless, bathing in fountains and dragging wheeled suitcases down the historic steps. /VCG Photo
