A magnitude-7.0 earthquake jolted southwest China's Jiuzhaigou County leaving a trail of destruction on August 8, 2017. The natural event caused 25 dead, 525 injured, and six people are still missing. The comprehensive post-disaster reconstruction plan by the local government is in place and a total of 114 seriously damaged sites are under reconstruction, giving residents the opportunity to rebuild their homes. On the other hand, the idyllic landscape of the renowned UNESCO World Heritage Site, Jiuzhaigou Valley National Park, still hasn't been restored. The ecology project is set to be completed by 2020.
