The third of a conceptual performance series named "2047 Apologue," directed by renowned film director Zhang Yimou, will be staged at the National Center for the Performing Arts in Beijing from September 13 to 15.

The show will present the relationship between human beings and technology as well as the theme of environmental protection.

Premiering in 2017, "2047 Apologue" was a concept theater show as it blends traditional Chinese art forms and modern technology.

The concept required a new performance method. "It has to be something unheard or unseen," Zhang told Beijing Youth Daily at the press conference of the upcoming show on Thursday. "Today people are well-informed and well-grounded, but they will still be impressed by something they have never seen before." He said he put traditional Chinese arts and modern technology together, both of which are rarely seen by common people, to create a collision of special sparks.

In the new production, performers include Chinese artists including several inheritors of intangible cultural heritage and a drone performance team from Switzerland.

"We hope that through this show, people will have some reflection upon it and think what the relationship between human beings and technology as well as artificial intelligence will be in the future," Zhang said.
