In Xichang City in southwest China's Sichuan Province, the 12th Lotus Awards, China's top dance event, is full swing, especially when it comes to this year's folk dance competitors. A total of 51 dance pieces were presented during the three-day competition. Apart from dance professionals, many local residents are also enjoying this year's extravaganza.

For contestants, participating has been a rewarding experience.

Zhao Linchun, head of Shanxi University’s dance team said, "The level of this year's event is very high. The judge panels are filled with dance professionals. We appreciate the opportunity to compete with other teams and learn from each other. It will definitely help the dancers in the long run."

Li Xueting is a contestant. She said, "For us, this competition is more about learning from others than just about results. Besides, Xichang is a beautiful city to compete in and the food is great."

Sponsored by the China Dancers Association and the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles, the Lotus Awards were initiated in 1998 and remain the only national awards show for dancing in China.
