A press conference for Sanya International Tourism Consumption Season was held in Beijing on August 11. The organizer announced that the "season" is composed of three major parts of one month each from August to October. Programs include summer fun for the youth, health and wellness in autumn, and a carnival throughout the National Day Holiday to be held in the city of Sanya, one of the major tourist destinations in Hainan Province.

According to a plan released by the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), China aims to build its southern Hainan Province into a globally influential tourism and consumption destination by 2035, by developing wellness, culture, festival, sports and other forms of tourism. The plan also mentioned the construction of an international duty-free shopping center, favorable duty-free policies when visitors exit through customs, as well as the development of cruise and yacht tourism.

Next year marks the first milestone towards the 2035 target for Hainan. With this year's Sanya International Tourism Consumption Season, it is expected that visitors will flock to the city for its various themed activities aimed at attracting tourists, such as a food and drink carnival, skate-boarding and dancing competitions.
