Typhoon Lekima, the ninth typhoon of the year, made landfall in the city of Wenling, the coastal areas of eastern Zhejiang Province, at 1:45 a.m. Saturday morning, according to the National Meteorological Center.

Anticipating the typhoon, Shanghai closed many of its popular tourist sites including parks and museums for safety reasons starting from August 9. A total of 92 scenic sites, parks and resorts as well as museums were closed on Saturday. Numbers of scenic spots in the provinces of Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Shandong, and Hebei were also temporarily closed for safety concerns. For example, in Zhejiang Province, boating on the West Lake has been temporarily suspended as the wind was strong over the water, while the Xixi National Wetland Park announced that its night tour programs will resume from August 16 should everything return to running smoothly. 

As Lekima heads north through Jiangsu and Shandong provinces, over 15 of Shanghai's popular destinations, including the Shanghai Wild Animal Park, Shanghai Museum, and Shanghai Disney Resort, reopened from Sunday after the typhoon left the city. 

Shanghai Wild Animal Park covers an area of about 153 hectares and houses more than 200 species of animal, including giant pandas, snub-nosed monkeys, takins, crested ibises, rhinoceroses, white rhinos, cheetahs, giraffes, zebras, and antelopes. There are also drive-through areas, pedestrian areas, and four aquariums.

The Shanghai Museum has earned itself a high reputation home and abroad as home to precious collections from ancient times, with about 140,000 bronzes, ceramics, paintings and pieces of calligraphy in its collection. The museum allows 8,000 free entries per day all year round.

Museum Hours is 9:00-17:00 from Tuesday to Sunday. Last entry is at 16:00.
