A spokesperson for the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council on Wednesday strongly condemned violent acts at Hong Kong International Airport on Tuesday night, voicing firm support to Hong Kong police.
Rioters on Tuesday detained, harassed and assaulted a visitor and a journalist from the Chinese mainland, inflicting physical and mental harm on them, said the spokesperson.
"We strongly condemn such violent acts near 'terrorism,' and we support Hong Kong police to bring rioters to justice as quickly as possible," spokesperson Xu Luying said.
The riots have completely broken through the bottom line of the law, the bottom line of morality and the bottom line of humanity, said Xu.
The violent acts seriously damaged Hong Kong's international image, hurt the feelings of the Chinese people, and blatantly ignore the rule of law, Xu added. "The serious violent crimes are so shocking and chilling."
