The Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) has promised to ensure the normal operations of flights between the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong Special Administrative Region amid recent disruptions related to the ongoing protests in Hong Kong, which left passengers stranded and delayed or cancelled flights earlier this week.

"The Civil Aviation Administration of China has already introduced measures to ensure the normalcy of travels of passengers between the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong by increasing capacity, ensuring refunds and re-issuing tickets, and increasing the transit capacity of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area," said Gu Xiaohong, spokesperson for the CAAC.

Last Friday, the CAAC issued a severe warning to Hong Kong-based Cathay Pacific over flight and passenger security issues.

The airline said it has suspended one of its pilots who was charged with rioting in Hong Kong protests recently, while dismissing two staff members for leaking information about police officers who flew as passengers.

"As things stand, Cathay Pacific has submitted on-time information on crew flights to and over the Chinese mainland, and the current submission of crew information meets the requirements," said Gu.
