Environmental protection efforts have paid off in Shigu Town in Lijiang City, southwest China's Yunnan Province as a result of a protective zone along the Yangtze, China's longest river, and the building of other facilities in recent years. 

"For nearly a decade, about 100,000 trees have been planted along the Jinsha River, upper stretch of the Yangtze River. Five years ago, forest coverage of Shigu was only around 68 percent but now it has reached 77.6 percent," said He Zhaoming, head of Shigu Forestry Station. 

"We collect all sewage water and daily wastewater and then discharge them after processing them in the container," said Wang Yun, an official of the Hailuo Village, Shigu Town. 

Thanks to the effective measures, all reservoirs and rivers in the town are properly managed and the local environment has improved.
