Groups of people devote their lives to restoring the Dunhuang frescoes, operating like "doctors" to the priceless paintings and passing their restoration skills to succeeding generations.

Dunhuang frescoes are famous for their rich colors and vivid characters. Mogao Caves is the most historic and well preserved Buddhist historical site in northwestern China. Among its 735 world heritage caves, 492 have been well reintegrated thanks to the hard work of these “doctors.”
