The latest plan for China's natural forest protection was introduced Wednesday by the State Council Information Office (SCIO). It clarifies overall requirements and major institutional measures, while also supporting and safeguarding policies for the protection of natural forests.

According to the National Forestry and Grassland Administration, it will strengthen the construction of natural forest management and protection station, as well as strictly regulate the occupation of natural forest land. Meanwhile, the latest plan will mobilize teams to prevent and control natural forest disasters, like fires and pollution. They hope this helps establish a lifelong system of liability for damage to natural forest resources.

Li Shuming, vice administrator of National Forestry and Grassland Administration, said, "The restoration measures should be carried out scientifically to curb the degradation of natural forests, and improve the quality of natural forests. Then, we hope to gradually restore the natural secondary forest, degraded secondary forest and other ecosystems to a certain level."

Jin Min, director of the Natural Forest Protection Project Management Office, says, "Our goal is to protect all natural forests by 2020 and basically establish systems for the protection and restoration of natural forests. By 2035, the area of natural forests in China will be stable at about 200 million hectares, and the quality will be fundamentally improved, which will provide strong support for the basic realization of the goal of beautiful China."

Experts say the next step is to establish a system of protection and restoration of natural forests with clear rights and responsibilities to maintain the authenticity and integrity of China's natural forest ecosystem.
