China, home to thousands kind of orchids, has a long history of orchids. In the Qinling Mountains, various species of orchids thrive deep in the forest.

The Pleione species is native to China and enjoys the country's second-class state protection. It grows at altitudes between 900 meters and 3,600 meters. The species is well adapted to cold temperatures and even frost. Pleione’s petals are usually pink, yellow, or white. The flower is named after the water-nymph Pleione in Greek mythology because of its beauty.

The Triangular Calanthe grows in the grasslands or under trees at an altitude of 1,600 meters to 3,500 meters. It can usually be found next to the shorthorn Calanthe on the Mount Taibai, the main peak of the Qinling Mountains. The flower has four to five leaves, yellow petals, and reddish-brown lips.

The petals of Japan ladyslipper are usually pink and spotted with purple patterns. It grows in moist and humus-rich soils in forests at an altitude of 1,000 to 2,000 meters. The Japan ladyslipper is a good choice for gardening.

Chinese people have always had a special affection towards orchids. For them, the orchid is the representation of happiness and goodness.
