Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte to visit China next week

Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte is set to visit China from August 28 to September 1 at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping, according to the Chinese Foreign Ministry.

Duterte's visit will be his fifth to China and the eighth time he meets his Chinese counterpart.

The two leaders will discuss the achievements both nations have made after upgrading bilateral relationship to comprehensive strategic cooperation last November during President Xi's state visit to the Southeast Asian country, said the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Assistant Secretary Meynardo Montealegre.

A series of agreements are expected to be signed, to expand and deepen the cooperation between the two sides in various fields.

After the Beijing visit, Duterte is also going south to the city of Guangzhou, where he is to with Chinese Vice President Wang Qishan, Montealegre added. 

"Both leaders will elaborate further on how to strengthen cooperation in terms of trade and investment."
