The Hong Kong police arrested 29 people on Saturday when a protest in the Kwun Tong district turned violent. Thousands of demonstrators marched through the industrial area, demanding the removal of environmental-monitoring lampposts. The police gave permission for the demonstration to take place but they say protesters deviated from the agreed route, attacked police officers and destroyed lampposts. Nineteen men and 10 women were arrested and charged with illegal assembly, possession of offensive weapons and assault. Meanwhile, the city braced for a new wave of protests on Sunday with the temporary suspension of services at several subway stations including the Tsuen Wan West Station.
