Over 7,000 Hong Kong women from all walks of life have gathered at the Convention and Exhibition Center on Saturday, calling for an end to the unrest in the Special Administrative Region and demanded peace and stability.
The Hong Kong Federation of Women headed the rally with the support of over 30 women's organizations. The rally organizer stressed that illegal assemblies are destructive for the region and many participants called on young people to say no to violence and protect the city.
"Many ignorant students in Hong Kong have been creating chaos in the city," resident Or Shuk-mei said. "Some of them even attacked the police. I was furious about that. And I've been in a terrible mood these days because of their radical and violent acts."
Kam Ling with the Hong Kong Federation of Women echoed, expressing her disappointment about the violent protesters.
"Many of us who gathered here today are mothers. We are really sad about the violence carried out by these young people. We really hope they will think twice before engaging in illegal assemblies. In the future, won't they be ashamed of their behavior?"
