The central government reiterates its firm support for the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government and its Chief Executive Carrie Lam, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang said Monday after Lam made a fresh plea for dialogue on Sunday by inviting the public to offer their views on her Facebook page.

"We strongly support the Hong Kong police to end violence and restore order in accordance with the law," Geng added.

After inviting individuals from diversified backgrounds to suggest ideas for a platform to promote an open dialogue on Saturday, Lam in her Sunday posting promised to conduct direct, in-depth and non-stop interactive dialogue.

She said the idea of building a platform for dialogue is not a trick and added that the format of the platform must break through the limitations of the past.

Some radical protesters blocked the road, confronted the police, attacked police officers with bricks and iron rods and repeatedly hurled petrol bombs at police cars and officers.

The HKSAR government has strongly condemned the escalation of violence stressing that radical protesters are not only outrageous but also putting Hong Kong on the brink of extreme danger.
