The opening ceremony of China's 10th National Games for the Disabled was held in Tianjin on Sunday night.

Thirty five delegations are competing in 43 events in Tianjin, the same host of the 2017 games.

Among those present at the ceremony were Wang Yong, State Councilor and director of the State Council's Working Committee on Disability; Li Hongzhong, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and secretary of the CPC Tianjin Municipal Committee; Zhang Guoqing, mayor of Tianjin; Gou Zhongwen, director of China's General Administration of Sport; Zhang Haidi, president of China Disabled Persons' Federation; and Majid Rashed, president of the Asian Paralympic Committee.

As soon as Wang declared the opening of the games, the event's anthem "Honor and Dreams" arose in the stadium.

The ceremony performances consisted of four chapters – "Bathing in the Sunshine," "Breathing the Sunshine," "Sharing the Sunshine" and "Embracing the Sunshine" – reflecting the general theme "Embrace the Sun," which implies a positive lifestyle for the disabled.

The athletes then proceeded to light the torch together at the end of the ceremony. There were in total 6,121 of them representing China's 23 provinces, four municipalities, five autonomous regions, the Hong Kong and Macao Special Administrative Regions, and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps. They will be involved in 34 sports for people with disabilities and nine linked to the Special Olympics.
