China expected Myanmar to make efforts to maintain peace and stability in the two countries' border area, Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Tuesday.
Wang made his remarks when talking with U Kyaw Tint Swe, Myanmar's minister of the office of the State Counselor.
Wang said that China firmly supports Myanmar in its efforts to advance the domestic peace process, and expected that relevant parties would sustain the ceasefire situation in northern Myanmar through consultations and maintain peace and stability in the two countries' border area.
The Chinese side pays close attention to the situation in the Rakhine State, and opposes multilateralization and politicization of this issue, Wang said.
He expressed China's appreciation of Myanmar's positive stance and pragmatic measures on repatriation of displaced persons from Rakhine State.
U Kyaw Tint Swe said Myanmar appreciates China's long-term assistance to the repatriation work and promised to continue resolving the Rakhine State issue through bilateral channels and friendly cooperation.
