Hong Kong police on Tuesday reiterated their condemnation of the violence carried out by radical protesters who attacked both police officers and civilians.

The radical protesters have hijacked the legal rights of residents, said police at a press conference.

"For all the violence and unlawful behavior, we will not tolerate, and we would pursue the lawful procedure," they stressed.

Thirteen more people, aged 19 to 40, had been arrested in the past few days for offenses including unlawful assembly, criminal damage, access to computers with criminal or dishonest intent, and possession of offensive weapons, according to the police.

The rallies had become increasingly violent, said Tse Chun-chung, chief superintendent of police public relations branch.

"No illegal or violent behavior can be glorified or justified," said Tse, adding that the police will not tolerate illegal activities, including violence.
