The two-day carnival, which began last Sunday, has brought vibrancy to the city during the holiday weekend. Around 12,500 police officers and some 1,000 stewards were in place across the event to ensure a "safe and spectacular" festival. /VCG Photo

Originating in 1966, the carnival is a way for Afro-Caribbean communities to celebrate their cultures and traditions. It is now one of the world's largest street festivals. /VCG Photo
