If you are interested in China and Chinese culture, here is an opportunity to express your feelings and share your experience and stories with social media users.

An online campaign was launched in Beijing on Tuesday to collect messages and best wishes from social media users around the globe for the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China (PRC).

Under the hashtag #CelebrateChina@70, the campaign will be carried out mainly on Facebook and Sina Weibo. It encourages overseas Chinese and foreigners interested in China or Chinese culture to send a congratulatory anniversary message.

It has six sub-themes, surrounding topics of "My best wishes to China," "The most impressive Chinese achievements and changes," "Proud to be a Chinese," "Chinese food in my country," "The most beautiful Chinese city" and "Stories of the new Chinese."

The messages could be sent in different forms, such as images and videos.

Situ Jianguo, or known as Stu, host of “Stu’s China Story”, shared his 12-year experience in China as an invited guest. After travelling all the way from Britain to China 12 years ago, to learn Chinese language and culture, he now has been a famous vlogger in China, and hosts three shows.

In his shows, he uses British humor to share his stories, experiences and views about China in both English and Chinese.

“Humor has strength,” he said, adding that he is looking forward to spend the next 10 years here in China and to take part in the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.

It was jointly initiated by the Cyberspace Administration of China and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. China Global Television Network (CGTN) and Xinhuanet.com will host the online campaign.

According to Yang Xiaowei, deputy director of the Cyberspace Administration of China, the drive is aimed at removing cultural barriers, resisting prejudices and reducing misunderstandings between nations, while at the same time bridging gaps in civilizations.

He noted that 2019 marks the 25th year of China's connection to the internet. Now, the country has 829 million internet users, 5.23 million websites, and its internet bandwidth of international exit has reached 9,000 gigabytes.

China has already become one of the most developed countries in internet applications, Yang said.

“The rapid development of the internet makes more people around the world know about the profound culture and history of China and at the same time brings the colorful world to the Chinese,” the official said.

"We should enhance communications with different countries, nations and civilizations, and learning from each other, so as to lay the humanistic foundation for building a community with a shared future for mankind," said Li Qun, vice minister of China's Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

Li added that he hopes more people could get to know China and the Chinese culture by participating in the online campaign.

The campaign will also cooperate with China Culture Centers in several countries.
