The opening ceremony of the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup is taking place at Beijing's Water Cube, where the water sports events of the 2008 Summer Olympic Games were held. The 18th tournament of the FIBA Basketball World Cup will span eight Chinese cities. Thirty-two teams will compete from August 31 to mid-September. The tournament will also act as a qualification competition for the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.
