Number of Chinese internet users reaches 854 million: report

A report released on Friday indicated that the number of internet users in China reached 854 million by June 2019, up 25.98 million from the end of 2018.

According to the report published by the China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC), 847 million people used mobile phones to access the internet, accounting for 99.1 percent of the total number of internet users in the country.

The average download speed of mobile broadband increased by about six times compare with five years ago, and charges for mobile internet traffic dropped more than 90 percent.

Faster speeds and lower costs have driven the significant growth of internet traffic. The monthly mobile internet traffic consumption per user reached 7.2 gigabytes, 1.2 times more than the global average.

The number of IPv6 address has become the world's largest with a total of 50,286 slash-32 IP blocks, up 14.3 percent from the end of 2018.

In terms of online shopping, the number of online shopper reached 639 million by June 2019, 28.1 million more than that of December 2018. Among them, 622 million shopped with their mobile phones, up 29.89 million from the end of last year, according to the report.
