The Oakland Raiders announced on Friday that they signed a three-year, 33.4-million-U.S.-dollar contract extension with the team's center Rodney Hudson, making the 30-year-old the highest-paid center in today's NFL.

Before Hudson got this new deal only two centers could make over 11 million U.S. dollars a year and they are Mitch Morse of the Buffalo Bills and Maurkice Pouncey of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Hudson surpassed both of them with an annual salary of 11.3 million U.S. dollars.

However, his guaranteed money of 24.4 million is not the highest among centers. Alex Mack of the Atlanta Falcons (28.5 million), Weston Richburg of the San Francisco 49ers (28.5 million), Travis Frederick of the Dallas Cowboys (28.2 million) and Morse (27.5 million) all enjoy better-guaranteed money than Hudson does.

Hudson's new contract was the latest investment in offense by the Raiders. Earlier the team just signed a record four-year, 66-million-U.S.-dollar contract with offensive tackle Trent Brown with 36.75 million as guaranteed money.

Oakland made the right decision signing the new deal with Hudson. Since his arrival in 2015, Hudson started all 61 games. Thanks to his incredible performance, the team's offensive line has only surrendered 127 sacks.

According to Pro Football Focus (PFF), in 2018, the 30-year-old tallied in total 1,074 snaps and did not give even one single sack while allowing only one hit and four quarterback hurries. Such great work earned him a pass-blocking efficiency grade of 99.6 better than any center in the league. PFF also revealed that last season, no center who tallied over 1,000 snaps allowed fewer than eight quarterback hurries.

The Raiders will play against the Denver Broncos at home, the RingCentral Coliseum on September 9.
