August 30 is the International Day of the Whale Shark. As the largest fish on the planet, the whale shark is not as scary as its appearance suggests. Sadly, the population of this amazing creature is rapidly decreasing. Many human activities, including oil and gas drilling, shipping, fishing, harvesting of aquatic resources, and recreational diving, can harm it and its habitat.
