Online short video sharing platforms are attracting millions of Chinese youths. But the expanding elderly population is also becoming a group of active users, both on and off screen. And they might just be the next growth point for these platforms. We're now seeing many popular senior figures online tapping into a large market for content including singing, modelling, and cooking. But what's the difference between this senior celebrity market and the market for younger people? And how will it develop in the future? Du Peng, director of the Center on Ageing Studies at Renmin University of China, said what the seniors in China want right now is independence, participation and self-fulfillment, so this type of trend among seniors will witness a rapid increase, and the new type of economy created by seniors is also good for their health both physically and mentally.
