Female panda Meng Meng gave birth to – not one, but two – cubs at Berlin Zoo on August 31, 2019. It is the first panda offspring in Germany. Six-year-old Meng Meng and her two cubs have survived the birth well and are in good health," explained zoo director Andreas Knieriem.
On loan from China, Meng Meng and male panda Jiao Qing arrived in Berlin in June 2017 to great fanfare.
Meng Meng, together with a male panda Jiao Qing, arrived at the Berlin Zoo in June 2017 from a panda breeding and research base in Chengdu, southwest China. She is officially the most welcomed panda abroad, after winning the first place in 2018 in the category of "Favorite Panda Outside of China" at the Giant Panda Global Awards, dubbed the Oscars of the panda world.
