The U.S. is throwing its weight around other countries' 5G network construction, and forces or even threatens others to take a united stance with itself, Geng Shuang, spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) said at a regular press conference on Tuesday, responding to the so-called "5G security declaration" recently signed by the U.S. and Poland.

"Such move is unquestionably an exposure of unilateralism and hegemonism," said Geng.

The U.S. and Poland signed an agreement Monday to cooperate on new 5G technology. U.S. Vice President Mike Pence and Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki signed the deal in Warsaw, which said will put more rigorous scrutiny of suppliers of 5G equipment and identify whether they are controlled by foreign governments, as the U.S. is pressuring allies to exclude the 5G technology from China's Huawei.

The technology of 5G is an innovative achievement shared by the international community. Its development relates to the global economic development, the interests of countries, and the progress of human civilization.

"The formulation of 5G rules and standards should be discussed through an open and inclusive multilateral process within the framework of a universally representative and authoritative mechanism," said Geng.

"If political factors are artificially introduced into the development, utilization and cooperation of 5G or even relevant issues are politicized and treated in a discriminatory manner, it will not only be detrimental to the development of 5G but also go against the principle of fair competition and the common interests of the international community," he stressed.

Regarding the 5G agreement reached between Poland and the U.S., Geng pointed out that Polish President Andrzej Duda had previously explicitly told Chinese Premier Li Keqiang that they would treat the Chinese enterprises in Poland fairly and would not take discriminatory measures against specific countries or enterprises.

"We hope Poland acts on what it says," added Geng.

"The U.S. has been generalizing the concept of 'national security' and abusing its state power in an effort to unjustly suppress Chinese enterprises, but it fails to present any evidence to support this claim," pointed out the spokesperson. "This kind of behavior is neither graceful nor moral."

Geng stressed that China urges the U.S. side to stop generalizing the concept of "national security," cease deliberate smearing and accusation against China, and put an end to unreasonable suppression of Chinese enterprises.

Countries with a fair and objective position can read clearly the real intention of the U.S. who cracks down on Chinese companies and stigmatizes China, said Geng.

"We urge some people in the U.S. not to overestimate their own ability to fabricate rumors or underestimate the judgment of others."
