PNG takes steps to shut down controversial Manus detention center

Papua New Guinea has taken a significant step toward shutting down an infamous refugee camp that has become synonymous with Australia's much-condemned immigration policies. The country's Ministry for Immigration and Border Security said it was terminating a contract with an Australian-backed firm running the detention center on Manus Island, in the north of the country.
