Chinese President Xi Jinping called on young officials to strive to realize the Chinese Dream of national rejuvenation on Tuesday.

Xi, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, made the remarks at the opening ceremony of a training program of young and middle-aged officials at the Party School of CPC Central Committee (National Academy of Governance) in Beijing.

Officials, young officials, in particular, should go through strict ideological, political and practical training to improve themselves, he said, urging them to work hard for achieving China's "two centenary goals" and the Chinese Dream of national rejuvenation.

The first centenary goal is to build a moderately prosperous society in all respects by 2020 to celebrate the centenary of the CPC, and the second centenary goal is to build a modern socialist country that is prosperous, strong, democratic, culturally advanced and harmonious by the middle of the 21st century in time for the centenary of the People's Republic of China.

The notion of the Chinese Dream was first raised by Xi when visiting "The Road Toward Renewal" exhibition in Beijing on November 29, 2012.

Noting that today's world is undergoing profound changes not seen in a century, Xi said China faces tough tasks in deepening reform, promoting development and maintaining stability; it also faces rare historic opportunities and a series of major risks.

Xi stressed that the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation is no easy task and called on the officials to be prepared for tough fights against all kinds of problems and risks.

China is entering a period when all kinds of risks and problems accumulate continuously and even emerge collectively, he said, adding that the country faces increasingly complicated fights in areas such as economic development, ecological protection, national defense, diplomacy and the work regarding Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.

He said officials in leadership positions should be able to find out potential risks and their development trends and fight against them when necessary.

Wang Huning, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and a member of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee, attended the ceremony.
