China has started making its 5G hospital network standard, with the country’s medical and mobile industries joining hands for the first time in the 5G sector.

When integrated with modern telecommunication methods, medical treatment gains momentum in reaching more people and cracking more impossibilities.

Jiao Yahui, an official from China National Health Commission, said that 5G technology has great potential in promoting tele-medicine and constructing smart and informationized hospitals, and so on.

“When the internet and medical treatments are integrated, there are many applications… and the 5G technology makes the medical treatment enter a fast track of development," she said.

Cases of tele-medicine and remote consultation are not so rare any more. Chinese tech giant Huawei says that it initiated “5G+medical treatment” pilot program in 2016 and there have been over 100 such programs in China.

But to better realize the prospects outlined for the 5G era, there are still uncertainties that need addressing. That's why more than 30 Chinese hospitals and major telecom giants came together in Beijing and initiated making the country's first 5G hospital network standard.

"As 5G technology emerges, we still need medical institutions to practice more, examine more, and standardize our future services and its network information technology," Jiao said.

To optimize and quicken the process, Huawei said that it would provide more support to others.

"For making the standard, Huawei will first provide the technology and equipment, including end-to-end 5G plug-ins and mobile back-haul networks, as well as cloud computing. Then, we will help build an ecosystem for the integration of both," Zhang Wenlin, president of Corporate Strategy of Huawei, said.

At the kick-off ceremony Wednesday in Beijing, two cooperation agreements were signed between hospitals and Huawei.

Three complex medical cases were discussed based on a 5G indoor network. Experts say the standard will become a part of national health standards and a new chapter in healthcare has begun.

With 5G technology, medical treatment is expected to see great development, and experts stressed that during the process, more discussions and standards will be laid out in order to have steady and sound progress in the sector.
