Fentanyl has been called the deadliest drug in America. Since 2017, more than 28,000 of U.S. drug overdose deaths have involved fentanyl, or some version of it. That puts it on par with fatal car accidents and gun violence. The U.S. has long been blaming China for its fentanyl crisis, claiming Chinese pharmaceutical companies are the biggest sources. But in April, the Chinese government announced it was adding all fentanyl-related substances to China's list of controlled narcotics. Ding Yifan, a development researcher with China's State Council, says China is taking actions to participate in global drug control and ward off risks.
