The 14th China-Thailand Film Festival recently closed in Bangkok, with four Chinese films, including this year’s blockbuster “The Wandering Earth” hitting big screens in Thailand.

The event is part of a series of campaigns in honor of the 70th anniversary of the founding of People’s Republic of China.

Extending from August 24 to early September, the nine-day event saw the screening of a number of films and TV dramas produced by both countries. Besides “The Wandering Earth,” there are also “Running to the Spring,” “21 Karat,” and Peking Opera film “Cao Cao and Yang Xiu,” which is based on a story from the classic novel “Romance of the Three Kingdoms.”

China’s domestic animation series “Nano Core,” TV series “Mission Impossible in Love,” “Fleet of Time,” and “Operation Love” were also screened.

There are also four Thai films being screened, including “Inhuman Kiss” and “Bikeman.”

Chinese films have seen fast development during the past 70 years, and in 2018, the general box office earning reached 60.9 billion yuan (8.52 billion U.S. dollars), with a 9.06-percent year-on-year increase.

The TV and film industry has also become an important cultural bridge linking China with the rest of the world, especially its Asian neighbors.

Chinese ambassador to Thailand Lyu Jian, addressing the opening ceremony, said that as the world’s second-largest film market and a major film producer, China has been devoted in participating global communications and holding dialogues with the world.

He hopes the “China-Thailand Film Festival could further promote the communication and cooperation in the field between the two countries, and opening a promising future for the cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative.”

The event was jointly sponsored by the Chinese embassy in Bangkok and the Thai Ministry of Culture.
