The four students are from the Premier School Affiliated to Hou Kong Middle School (HKP) in Macao, and the lesson of loving the motherland has a history of 70 years in this school. Their former principal, Du Nam, who taught here in 1936, raised Macao's first Flag of the People's Republic of China in Macao’s school.

On the day of the founding of People’s Republic of China on October 1, 1949, Du Nam, then the Principal of HKP arrived early with a radio. At 3 p.m., as the Flag of the People's Republic of China rose in Beijing, Du led the school's teachers and students raised the National flag, accompanied by the national anthem from Tiananmen on the radio.

At that time, Macao had not returned to the embrace of the motherland. In the face of the Portuguese authorities in every possible way to create difficulties, Du insisted and said: “I'm a Chinese, the People's Republic of China has been established. Our National Flag must be raised.”

Since then, HKP held Grand National Flag-raising ceremony every year during the school celebration and National Day of October, which has been in practice for 70 years.
