President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev will pay a state visit to China on September 10-12, Geng Shuang, spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry said Thursday.

China welcomes the state visit, said Geng, as it marks the first visit paid by Tokayev since he sworn in as president.

According to Geng, Tokayev will meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Chinese Premier Li Keqiang respectively. A series of important documents on cooperation will be signed during the meeting.

China and Kazakhstan are friendly neighbors and comprehensive strategic partners, said Geng. The visit is expected to inject new impetus to China-Kazakhstan relations and push forward bilateral cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).
