The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government has released a statement severely condemning the violent and vandalistic acts by radical protesters on Friday in the vicinity of Prince Edward, Mong Kok and Yau Ma Tei.

The statement publicized early Saturday said the behaviors of some radical protesters who attacked the police station, extensively vandalized public property and MTR stations and set fires at various places "are outrageous and disregard the needs and rights of other members of the public."

"Also it is extremely dangerous to set fires in busy areas, jeopardizing people's safety," a spokesman of the HKSAR government said in the statement.

The Hong Kong police will take "resolute enforcement actions" to protect the safety and rights of the members of the public, he added.

Since around 8:30 p.m. local time on Friday, a group of protesters gathered on the roads in the vicinity of Mong Kok police station, smashed CCTV cameras and turnstiles, and damaged fire facilities therein. Some of them dug up bricks from the pavement and threw hard objects at police officers, said the police in the statement, adding that a dispersal operation in Mong Kok was conducted.

Some violent protesters even dismantled railings and traffic lights from roadsides, and pointed laser beams at the police.

The police said they will take resolute enforcement actions to protect the safety and rights of the members of the public.
