"Spider-Man: Far from Home" may be one of this summer's biggest blockbusters, but for Spidey fans who hope to see him return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the future is unpredictable.

Sony Pictures chairman and CEO Tony Vinciquerra said during Variety's Entertainment and Technology Summit Thursday, "For the moment the door is closed."

Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios failed to come to an agreement over Spider-Man's future on the big screen and Vinciquerra insisted that there was "no ill will" between Sony and Disney.

For those who hope to see Spider-Man with other "Avengers" on the big screen will be disappointed. Due to a previous agreement penned in 2015, Tom Holland, the third and current live action Spider-Man, was able to appear in five Marvel films: "America: Civil War" "Avengers: Infinity War" "Avengers: Endgame" "Spider-Man: Homecoming" and "Spider-Man: Far From Home." These movies helped make Spider-Man even more popular around the world, especially among young filmgoers.

The latest Spider-Man movie, "Spider-Man: Far From Home" grossed over 1.1 billion U.S. dollars worldwide, making it one of the biggest and most bankable superhero films, soit seems out of character for Disney to bow out of a deal with Sony.

On the other hand, according to CEO Vinciquerra, Sony won't slow down with Spider-Man movies, there are "five or six" properties based on the Spider-Man world on the way.
