Typhoon Lingling hits Korean Peninsula after battering E China

Typhoon Lingling brushed up against the Korean Peninsula on Saturday after battering east China and south of Japan, killing at least one person and injuring two others. /VCG Photo

The powerful storm reached the southern resort island of Jeju in the Republic of Korea (ROK) on Friday night, causing massive power outages and toppling trees and lamp posts. /VCG Photo

On Saturday, strong winds and rain lashed the mainland regions. Flights were canceled and dozens of people were forced to evacuate their flooded homes in a city near Seoul. /VCG Photo

The typhoon was expected to further move north and make landfall in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) later on Saturday. State media there reported that measures have been implemented to prevent damages. /VCG Photo

Northeast China's Jilin Province also experienced showery weather on Saturday. On Friday, the storm brushed over China's eastern coast and caused heavy rainfall in cities including Shanghai, Hangzhou and Ningbo. /VCG Photo
