Millions flock to Barcelona to watch Lionel Messi play at the Camp Nou and visitors to the city will soon be able to see a circus show about the five-time world footballer of the year.

Cirque du Soleil's show Messi10 will premiere at the Parc del Forum on October 10, as Barcelona is the only city in Spain where the show will be presented for a month till November 10.

New year, the cast of 46 performers will take the show to Buenos Aires, Argentina, in June.

Messi10 has been billed as a "euphoric 90-minute thrill ride that combines breathtaking physical performance with unthinkable poetic wonder".

The Montreal-based world's largest theatrical producer revealed that the show is "promising to be an explosive, fan-fueled inspiring live show that bridges the world of football and circus by celebrating the magic behind Messi".

The story features Messi with boundless ambition at youth to overcome all obstacles in becoming the greatest number 10 in the world.

"The show creates a universe where greatness is found in bouncing back to your feet, no matter how many times you are brought down on your way to achieving the impossible," read the show's brief introduction.

The Barcelona and Argentina forward's rise from Rosario, in his home country, to the pinnacle of world football will be depicted in the first Cirque du Soleil show to debut in Spain.

Media were on Monday given access to the set, which is under construction and will accommodate 3,000 spectators at the show each night.
