In his latest Twitter rant, U.S. President Donald Trump reignited an old feud with musician John Legend and his wife, model Chrissy Teigen. First, Trump accused Legend of not playing a role in passing criminal justice reform, following Legend's appearance on a criminal justice town hall hosted by MSNBC's Lester Holt.

Legend was the initial target because he became an activist back in 2014, when he launched the "FreeAmerica" organization "to transform America's criminal justice system" and end mass incarceration. According to the official website, "When 70 million individuals across the country have a criminal record, mass incarceration can only be categorized as an epidemic due to decades of misguided policies and practices."

Trump inserted himself in the conversation when he said the program failed to give him enough credit for signing a law introduced in December. This piece of legislation allows federal inmates to leave prison earlier, eases some mandatory minimum sentences and gives judges more leeway in sentencing.

"I SIGNED IT INTO LAW, no one else did, & Republicans deserve much credit. But now that it is passed, people that had virtually nothing to do with it are taking the praise," the president tweeted late Sunday night.

Then Trump went after John Legend and his wife Teigen. "Guys like boring musician @johnlegend, and his filthy mouthed wife, are talking now about how great it is - but I didn't see them around when we needed help getting it passed," the president wrote.

The attack didn’t go unanswered. Legend responded by saying Trump is hungry for praise and asked Trump’s wife Melania to step in. “Imagine being president of a whole country and spending your Sunday night hate-watching MSNBC hoping somebody – ANYBODY – will praise you. Melania, please praise this man. He needs you.”

Teigen responded about an hour later. “lol what a p—y ass bitch. Tagged everyone but me. An honor, mister president.”

She later added, "The absolute best part of his tweet is I literally didn’t speak in the special, nor was I mentioned.”

By Monday morning, the feud was trending via the hashtag #filthy-mouthedwife, #PresidentPussyAssBitch, and #TeamChrissy.

Trump and Teigen have a Twitter history. According to the Vanity Fair, Trump hasn’t tweeted directly at Chrissy Teigen. Only once, he retweeted someone who insulted her in 2015 and then proceeded to block her in 2017, after she wrote "lol no one likes you."

Teigen, on the other hand, wasn't afraid of writing his name. Going back to 2011, she tweeted "Donald Trump sure turned into a joke right?" In 2012, she went on to say he was the "biggest attention w----" she knew, and has sustained her criticism of the president on social media.

To CNN, Anthony Scaramucci, Trump's former communications director who has now disavowed the president, called the spat "despicable."

"Have any of the other presidents in recent history – modern history – gone after their private citizens whether they're celebrities or not celebrities?" Scaramucci said, adding that "(for) the last two and a half years this guy has acted like a bully, crazy person against his fellow citizens."
