Chinese Foreign Ministry on Thursday urged the United States to stop taking Xinjiang-related issues as a pretext to interfere in China's domestic affairs.
The U.S. Senate reviewed and passed a bill about China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region on Wednesday.
"China firmly opposes the passage of the bill by the U.S. Senate," said spokesperson Hua Chunying, noting that the bill smeared the human rights situation in Xinjiang and criticized the Chinese government's Xinjiang policies.
Such flagrant interference in China's internal affairs will only make the Chinese people indignant, she added.
China urges the U.S. side to respect facts, return to reason, discard the Cold War mentality, and stop pushing the bill to become law so as to prevent damages to the bilateral relations, the spokesperson stressed.
