China welcomed the positive signals from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) on resuming nuclear talks with the U.S. in late September, Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi told a news conference with Malaysian Foreign Minister Saifuddin Abdullah after their meeting on Thursday.
China also hoped Washington would take actual steps to resume negotiations with Pyongyang, Wang said.
Wang urged the U.S. to take reciprocal actions that would echo positive efforts taken by DPRK over the past year towards dialogue, and give up the wrong practice of its maximum pressure policy which "would not work on DPRK nor on any other country".
China will continue to play a constructive role in safeguarding peace and stability in the Korean peninsula and facilitating the process of denuclearization through dialogue and consultation, he stressed.
The DPRK said on Monday it was willing to restart nuclear talks with the U.S. in late September, only if Washington takes a fresh approach.
