Chief Executive of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Carrie Lam has promised to prioritize housing and people's livelihoods. In a Facebook post late on Thursday, Lam vowed to increase the supply of housing with the full implementation of the six policies she announced in June.

Housing is one of the most pressing issues in Hong Kong. With some of the world's most expensive real estate, many young people say the city's housing policy is unfair, benefiting the rich, while forcing them to live with their parents or rent "shoe-box" apartments at exorbitant prices.

Lam pledged to curb housing price with measures including "vacant housing tax," and increasing the supply of affordable indemnificatory housing. These policies are aimed at solving housing problems for ordinary residents, Lam noted, adding that more policies will be gradually implemented.

Regarding commercial housing prices, Lam said market regulation will remain the main measure.

Lam has always put affordable housing at the top of her agenda. She had proposed to increase land supply in the two policy addresses she delivered since she became the SAR's chief executive.
