The beginning of Mid-Autumn Festival falls on the 15th day of the 8th month of the Chinese lunar calendar, typically sometime between September and October when a full moon occurs. Originally, the festival celebrated the fall harvests not only in China, but throughout Asia. Today it's a time for family reunion.
