A meeting with representatives of central China's Hunan Province was held in Beijing on Thursday, with the special goal of introducing the province to the world. Diplomats from more than 130 countries and international organizations, as well as entrepreneurs from some of the world's top companies participated in the event, titled the Hunan Province Global Introduction Meeting. Hunan is an inland province in central China with an area of 210,000 square kilometers and a population of 73 million. Hunan was the home province of late Chairman Mao Zedong, and many other politicians and revolutionaries of New China. While it has a long history as an agricultural province, science and technology now contribute to one quarter of Hunan's total GDP.

"We put scientific innovation as our emphasis, and facilitate such innovation in every field. We have produced some advanced technological achievements, such as a super computer and super hybrid rice. We are also actively engaging with the rest of the world. We have established trade relations with more than 200 countries and regions, and 173 of the global 500 companies have made investments in Hunan."

"Chinese Academy of Engineering academician Yuan Longping has been fostering super hybrid rice in Hunan for a long time. By far, we have trained 14,000 related technicians from over 80 developing countries. The increased production of rice every year through the introduction of the super hybrid rice can feed 80-million more people. This technology has not only benefited China, but has also made great contributions to global sustainable development and poverty reduction," Wang said.
