Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola insisted he still "loves" his players after a shock 3-2 defeat at newly-promoted Norwich as the Premier League champions fall five points behind Liverpool at the top of the table.

City lost for the first time in the league since January as Kenny McLean, Todd Cantwell and Teemu Pukki struck for an injury-ravaged Norwich at Carrow Road.

However, Guardiola claimed the odd slip-up is the norm rather than the exceptional form City have demonstrated in winning back-to-back Premier League titles.

Guardiola's men posted a record 100 points in 2017/18 and held off Liverpool's club record 97-point haul to retain their title with 98 points last season.

"I know what we are as a team, what we have done, what we are going to do again, and I love my players. It is a pleasure and honor to be with them," said the Catalan coach.

"That is the challenge in a high level. The people cannot expect all the time (to) win or make 100 points, 90 points.

"It shows how difficult everything (we have done) is. Now we need to recover, go to Europe (in the Champions League) and come back."

"We know the quality of our opponents, not just Liverpool, but especially Liverpool and I know five points is five points, but we are in September."

Mane, Salah combine to maintain Liverpool's perfect start

Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah ensured Liverpool maintained their 100 percent start to the Premier League season by coming from behind to beat Newcastle 3-1 at Anfield on Saturday.

The European champions have a history of starting slowly in early kick-offs under Jurgen Klopp and only arose from their slumber after the Magpies took a shock lead through Jetro Willems on seven minutes.

Mane turned the tide before half-time with a sumptuous finish into the top corner before profiting from an error by Newcastle goalkeeper Martin Dubravka for his second.

Newcastle sprung a huge surprise by claiming their only win of the season so far at Tottenham three weeks ago. They followed the same script as they frustrated the hosts in the early stages before stunning Anfield by going in front.

Rashford penalty edges Man United past Leicester

Marcus Rashford put the disappointment of a previous penalty miss behind him by scoring from the spot to give Manchester United a much-needed 1-0 win over Leicester at Old Trafford on Saturday.

The result was also a personal triumph for United's 80 million pounds (99 million U.S. dollars) defender Harry Maguire, signed from Leicester last month and jeered and taunted throughout the game by his former supporters.

Maguire made an early error that might have gifted his old team the lead but grew in stature throughout as United secured just their second win in 10 Premier League games.

Solskjaer's admission that this was a game United were fortunate to win was honest and accurate and one he could make thanks to Rashford's eight minute penalty – the fourth spot kick awarded to his team in their opening five games.

Pogba, however, was not a candidate, having missed the game with an ankle injury, paving the way for Rashford.

"Every striker misses a penalty," said Solskjaer. "I've seen (Diego) Maradona, (Lionel) Messi, (Michel) Platini, Zico – my favorite player of all-time, miss them.

"You've just got to be confident enough to step up next time. What's the worst that can happen?"

"It was the first time this season we have had to defend for longer periods," said Solskjaer. "Of course we want to play better than this but I thought we rode the game out well."

Beckham swept off his feet by Hotspur's stadium

David Beckham has told Mauricio Pochettino he wishes he could play for Tottenham Hotspur at the club's new stadium after watching their 4-0 home win over Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Former England captain Beckham was in the stands as the north Londoners scored four times before the break, with Son Heung-min netting twice, Serge Aurier forcing an own goal from Patrick van Aanholt and Erik Lamela completing the rout.

"I think it's an amazing stadium," said Pochettino.

"It's only the beginning. We haven't played too many games here. For us it's so important to make our stadium our home and start to feel comfortable.

"It's completely different to White Hart Lane and of course I think with time we are going to feel at home and it's going to be difficult for opponents to beat us."

Pochettino picked right-back Aurier for the first time this season and the Ivorian responded by setting up two goals.

"The first half was fantastic, his concentration and focus.

"Now he needs to show and be consistent – it's not only one game, and the second game the focus and intensity start to drop."

Palace manager Roy Hodgson talked about his opponent from South Korea.

"I have to say Son's performance in the first half was outstanding," Hodgson said.

"I can't speak for Mauricio Pochettino, but if I had a player do what Son did today I would be really delighted."

Abraham leads the way for five-star Chelsea

Tammy Abraham once again demonstrated why Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has placed his faith in the 21-year-old with a superb hat-trick in a crushing 5-2 defeat of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Wolves were supposed to be celebrating the 130 years in their Molineux home but the celebrations fell flat as Lampard's young guns swept Nuno Espirito Santo's side away.

Abraham's treble was the outstanding contribution as he became the third player aged under 22 to score two goals in three successive Premier League games, matching the achievement of Cristiano Ronaldo at Manchester United and Tottenham's Dele Alli.

Premier League matches on Saturday:

Norwich City 3-2 Manchester City

Liverpool 3-1 Newcastle

Manchester United 1-0 Leicester City

Tottenham Hotspur 4-0 Crystal Palace

Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-5 Chelsea

Brighton 1-1 Burnley FC

Sheffield United 0-1 Southampton
