Hong Kong police on Monday said 89 people were arrested on charges including carrying illegal weapons, assaulting police, unlawful assembly, containing offensive weapons, arson, and fighting in public places over the past weekend.
Kong Wing-cheung, senior superintendent of the police's public relations branch, told a press conference that nine police officers were injured during the operations.
Hong Kong police have arrested 1,453 people so far, including 1,173 men and 280 women, all aged between 12 to 72 years old.
The police condemned all acts of violence and pledged to bring all offenders to justice, chief superintendent of the public relations branch Tse Chun-chung stressed during the press conference.
"Many protesters took justice into their own hands and harshly assaulted people who were not on their side. We express the strongest condemnation of such reckless and ruthless violence," said Tse.
