Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for greater internet safety and openness to innovation. He has also highlighted the importance of raising people's sense of fulfillment, happiness and security in cyberspace. In a message marking this year's China Cybersecurity Week, Xi said the country will safeguard the security of personal information and citizens' legal rights in cyberspace. He said China should also seek more integrated development of network security education, technology and industry. 

Cybersecurity week opens in north China's Tianjin Municipality on September 16. It comes amid recent concern over several popular apps found to have been collecting excessive amounts of private information.
