Forest fires that have lasted for over a month have threatened the lives of the continent's symbolic animals. Among them, small animals in the region were the hardest hit as the fire depleted water and food supplies. Ivan Arnold, executive director of the Nativa Foundation, said at least 250,000 hectares of forest land have been scorched by the flames, killing animals trying to escape the flames.
