To celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and present a panoramic view of the country's great journey, the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, the National Radio and Television Administration (NRTA) and the China Media Group (CMG) have jointly produced a 24-episode documentary "On the Great Road," which premiered on CCTV on Monday.
The series focuses on the great achievements and valuable experience of people of all ethnic groups in the socialist revolution, construction, and reform over the past 70 years and recounts the touching stories and important events of the country since its founding in 1949.
It begins with the great social change made by both the people and the CPC during the early years after the founding of New China, showing the great leap of the country from weak to strong.
The first episode of the series features the difficult process of the birth of China. The founding was the result of struggles and sacrifices of countless people with lofty ideals and that of a revolutionary war led by the CPC over the past 28 years.
From the Opium War to the May Fourth Movement, and the founding of the CPC, the first episode shows audiences a China more than 100 years ago with historical footage.
The second episode, also broadcast on Monday, tells how the Chinese government has transformed the face of society by confiscating bureaucratic capital and carrying out land reform after the founding of New China.

Previous policy of feudal land ownership that benefited the landlord class was abolished. For the first time, peasants became the owner of land.
Also in a first, women's rights were recognized and protected by law as the marriage law of the People's Republic of China was promulgated.
The 24-episode documentary illustrates the country's history of struggle with heartwarming stories and introduces those who have made special contributions to the development of the country.
The film not only reflects the historical process objectively but also pays attention to the down-to-earth story. It not only documents the major historical events of various periods but also presents the tremendous changes in the daily lives of millions of Chinese people.
It also stresses that the Chinese nation, through self-reliance and hard work, stands proudly despite of its ups and downs.
"On the Great Road" will air twice daily on CCTV-1 during prime time.
